What Is Classical Feng Shui?

The Chinese revered nature and as a result, Feng Shui focuses on how we can live in harmony with the natural environment. Feng Shui is the ancient Chinese art and science of balancing the forces of nature to promote prosperity, harmony and good fortune.

The basic principles of Feng Shui are the Yin and Yang, I Ching, and the Five Elements (fire, earth, metal, water and wood). Feng Shui is not related to any religion or belief system. It is a scientific discipline based on the analysis of your environment and its Ch'i for a particular cycle. Feng Shui is the art and science of being in harmony and being at one with nature.

Feng Shui literally means wind and water, two of nature's most powerful forces. Classical Feng Shui determines probabilities on how you, your home, time, and the environment are affecting, or will affect your life. The key element is time, since life is constantly changing. Classical Feng Shui consists of a combination of the form and compass schools. As part of the Classical Feng Shui practice, a Feng Shui practitioner uses a Lopan (compass) to determine the energy characteristics of a home or building. Based on this reading and the time element, Feng Shui analyzes the potential effects of the location's energy and current cycle on the building's occupants. Calculations are performed according to the basic principles, and elemental remedies are prescribed, where necessary, to balance the energy.
